Internet sharing works on Mac which is running on Mac OS X from 10.6, to OS X 10.7 Lion, 10.8 Mountain Lion, OS X Mavericks, and beyond. Once internet sharing is enabled on internet-connected Mac, other devices such as another Mac, laptop, tablet, iPad or any other WiFi-enabled devices will be able to connect to internet using Macbook as WiFi hotspot

How to use Macbook as WiFi Hotspot

Here is the step by step guide to use Macbook as WiFi Hotspot.

  1. Ensure Macbook is connected to internet through ethernet cable.

    Internet sharing on Macbook will work if it is connected to internet through ethernet only.

  2. Go to System Preference

    Click on Apple icon in the top menu bar and select System Preference.

  3. Click on Internet sharing and select Wi-Fi

    You can select Wi-Fi by ticking the option box next to Wi-Fi.

  4. Turn on Internet Sharing

    Clicking the tick mark next to Internet Sharing in the side bar will enable internet sharing.

  5. Confirm internet sharing

    Click on Start on the menu which pops up in order to turn on Internet sharing on Macbook.
